1. Course maintenance
All fringes and approaches have been fertilized and bunkers tidied and re-
Top dressing and seeding will progress throughout May with wetting agents being used. This work is reliant on the rising temperatures which will improve growth. We will also put in place a weed control programme. As we are currently down to one Toro workman Robert is looking to out-
Course measurement check by England Golf has been completed with no reasons for change found. The rating of greens will be done on Friday the 17th of May with the course rating being done on Monday the 20th of May. Please be aware of EG personnel being on the course both days. It will be necessary to close the course on the Monday from 2.00 pm.
Bert is still keen to hear from volunteers willing to help with a variety of projects on the course.
2. Machinery Evaluation
The Greens committee are currently evaluating all the course equipment and have recommended to the Directors a set of investment priorities to upgrade. This will include better carrying equipment, a mower and a sprayer to fit onto the tractor. In addition to this some of the redundant equipment will be sold for scrap. These are important investments for the Club and the finance committee will look at the best way (purchasing or leasing) to secure the equipment and allow the Greens Staff the best chance of maintaining the course in its current excellent condition.
There are a small number of members who are still to pay their membership fees. It is a requirement for all members to have paid their fees by May and we will now not allow the small numbers who haven’t paid to enter competitions.
Please contact John Buxton asap if you have not yet paid your fees.
Congratulations to Steve Cain and Richard Grimmer for winning the Aitcheson Qualifier. Well done to W Gannon for winning the Whitbread Cup.
In the Ladies Section congratulations to Ann Whifield for winning the Ladies EG Medal and Margaret Pearson for winning the Easter Flag competition.
Don’t forget to book into the Captain’s Away Day on the 7 June at Worksop. Details are on the noticeboard.
UPDATE FROM THE DIRECTORS MEETING 13 MAY
The Directors meeting covered a range of issues including further progress on the plans for the Swing Room, for which we are still awaiting planning approval. Sue Hill has agreed to become the Club Secretary. John Buxton confirmed that the Club finances are in a healthy position. England Golf will assess the difficulty of the course in July for CONGU.
FUND RAISER FOR St LUKES
To raise money for the St Lukes Steven Haigh, the Captain and Matt Sedgwick will undertake a “dawn to dusk” challenge to complete as many rounds as possible. Please look out for the details to sponsor them on the 17 June. A Just Giving Page can be Accessed by clicking on the link below. THANK YOU.
