The directors have reviewed the stroke index for the gents white tees. Using the HANDICAPMASTER software we have taken data from 17 major competitions played last season, the software has ranked each hole on it’s degree of difficulty ranging from 1 (hardest) to 18 (easiest). We have then averaged the ranking over the season and come up with an “Average Ranking” for the holes and then a “seasons Ranking”. The advice from the English Golf Union is for clubs to have all the odd numbered stroke indexes on the same nine and all the even stroke indexes on the other nine. They also suggest the 1st, 9th, 10th and 18th holes are not stroke index 1 and that stroke index 1 is approximately central to the nine holes.
The new stroke index will be implemented on the first major competition of 2008.
