About the club
Stocksbridge Golf Club is a small friendly club situated approximately 11 miles north of Sheffield. The M1 junction 36 is only 5 miles away.
The course is built on the hillside to the south west of Deepcar; the highest point of the course is about 300 metres above sea level. The views from the 17th green are very spectacular, to the south west is the City of Sheffield with the seven hills in the distance, to the east the cooling towers at Drax power station 60km away can be seen.
The club was founded in 1924 by a local steelworks for its employees, but membership soon became open to all. The course started as a nine hole course and was extended to 15 holes in 1982, the current 18 hole layout was completed in 1990
The course is best described as upland heath, is relatively short by today’s standards, but is devilishly tricky. The greens are small and tucked away, often close to punishing rough or heather (or both!)
The par is 65 from the yellow tees, but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a pushover, if the wind is blowing the par may seem nearer 70!
At the end of your round feel free to relax and enjoy a dink in the bar
We have a resident professional Roger Broad who has a well stocked shop offering a wide range of goods and services.
